Mark Steyn off the “Hate Hook”

The case against author Mark Steyn and Maclean’s has been dropped. Charges equaling “hate speech” were brought against them in Canada’s crazy detour from free speech known as the Human Rights Commission. Christopher Warren’s article, linked above, gives a good background on the HRCs.

I hope that nothing even remotely like the HRCs come to the US. It would be a sad, sad day if they were to ideologically jump the border. In fact, I suspect that many a blogger would fall under foot, that there would be much less “free speech”, and that the ranks of “victims” in America would swell ever larger.

If you haven't, I strongly encourage you to read Mr. Steyn's book America Alone. Judge for yourself if his is "hate speech".

Why? this book is useless.

"Judge for yourself if his is "hate speech"."

imho it's only uneducated fear monger speech, not prosecutable.

Nicolas,

I assume, by your comment, that you've read the book. If you have, you probably noticed that the bulk of Mr. Steyn's argument is based on sound demographic data. He uses that data to extrapolate what certain places may well "look like" in the years and decades ahead. He then theorizes what that will mean to the cultures of such countries.

You may disagree with his theories or you may dispute his data. But if so, then do that. Just calling something "useless" or calling his writing (speech) "uneducated" is not the basis of a well thought out critique.

Cheers.

I have not.

"You may disagree with his theories or you may dispute his data."

Thank you sir.

You can look at http://mindofflapjack.blogspot.com/2007/02/environmental-tag.html about fear mongering alarmist.

Or take a random page number, that we could discuss.

Nicolas,

I have re-read the post indicated (environmental tag) and stand by what I said. I have written the same in other posts: those who head the rabid environmentalist movement also stand to benefit heftily from it, mostly through "carbon offset" schemes.

Please excuse my abruptness, but if you care to make an argument, please feel free. However, 3-4 word replies to one-liners from me are not substantive. Nor are they how I hope to spend my day.

Cheers.

I can not write in 5 or even 10 minuts all the arguments i have against this 142 pages book.

Nicolas,

Then we will have to agree to disagree.

Of course (laught).

"He uses that data to extrapolate"

Indeed.

"You may disagree with his theories or you may dispute his data. But if so, then do that."

Why no start with "Europe as a whole has 1.38; Japan, 1.32; Russia, 1.14. These countries - or, more precisely, these people - are going out of business." (page 18), omiting that France (GDP > 1.7 T€/year, world 6th) had a TFR of 1.9 (page 47), only 0.2 lower than USA (now 0.1), and an increasing population?
